Moscow and Ankara was accused of violating the ceasefire in Idlib province in Northwest Syria. The corresponding statement was made head of the press service of the US Department of state Morgan Ortagus in his Twitter.
“She is upset by the news about men, women and children killed in Idlib (…). Urge Russia and [Syrian President Bashar] Assad to stop these brutal attacks,” wrote Ortagus. The head of the press service did not provide any evidence of his words.
On 16 January it was reported that the Syrian army broke the ceasefire and resumed military operations in Idlib. It was noted that military operations are in the South-East of the province. This step was a response to the violation by militants of the cease-fire.
9 Jan in Idlib imposed a ceasefire. This decision was made by the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a joint meeting. They also discussed the solution of problems in the middle East. The leaders said they wanted to find a way by using exclusively peaceful methods.
