The government of North Korea has replaced the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs (MFA) of the country. On Sunday, January 19, TASS reported with reference to diplomatic sources in Pyongyang.
According to interlocutors of Agency, instead of Lee Yong-Ho, who headed the Ministry from 2016 and was known as liaison officer with the United States, a new Minister was appointed, Lee Seon Gwon, who has held the post of head of the Committee for the peaceful reunification of the Motherland, concerned with relations between the DPRK and South Korea.
As explained by the source TASS, the foreign diplomats in Pyongyang, and learned of the appointment of the new head of the foreign Ministry on January 11.
While official confirmation on the appointment of Lee sung Gwon from the government of North Korea has not yet been reported. It is expected that it will present to public at a traditional event for diplomats, to mark the New year according to the lunar calendar, which will be held in Pyongyang on January 23.
In November last year, Russia gave North Korea an updated action plan to resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Prior to this, the Chairman of the Supreme people’s Assembly of the DPRK Pak Tae Seong said that the US and South Korea irritate Pyongyang by its actions. According to him, North Korea is promoting a peace agenda and trying to put an end to threats of war on the Korean Peninsula.
