The EU is going to follow the example of France and Italy and to strike at international IT corporations by a tax of several percent of the revenue. About this on air of France Inter, said the European Commissioner for the internal market Thierry Breton, writes “Kommersant”.
The initiative is aimed at American corporations such as Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon, which are the largest in terms of capitalization U.S. companies. They are second only to Saudi oil company Saudi Aramco, which went on IPO at the end of last year.
France last year introduced the so-called tax GAFA — acronym compiled from the names of Google (the main asset of the Alphabet), Apple, Facebook and Amazon.
In order to get under the act, the company must have annual turnover of not less than 750 million euros and earning in France at least 25 million. Later a similar law was passed in Italy, only there he applies to companies earning in the Republic not less than 5.5 million euros.
This decision sharply criticized the US President Donald trump. As stated in the report of the Office of the U.S. trade representative (USTR), Washington intends to increase the customs duties on the importation of goods from France in the amount of $ 2.4 billion.
