The lawyer of the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych Alexander Babikov was appointed Deputy Director of the State Bureau of investigation (UIR). This was announced by the Director of the Bureau Irina Venediktova in the video, writes Obozrevatel.
Venediktov said that the Committee for selection of Vice, his work is done, the candidates have passed the special inspection, and orders appointing them signed.
Earlier, the relatives of the victims on the Maidan in 2014, opposed the appointment of Babikov and admission to the investigation of those events. Venediktov said that the unit that investigates the “case of Maidan”, subject solely to the Director of the RRT. “All measures have been taken to avoid conflict of interest. See the direct link between investigations of high-profile cases and information attack on the RRG because of the appointments,” said she.
Venediktov added that RRG “not playing politics”, its task — to restore order. “As soon as we started to adhere to the requirements of the law, to form part of the investigation of the “square” of independent investigators, each of which I looked in his eyes, intensified investigation of high profile cases, there was a wave of dirt. Rates have grown,” she said.
At the end of 2013 and early 2014 on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence square) in Kyiv held a mass anti-government protests. Killed more than 100 people. President Yanukovych was ousted and fled to Russia. Subsequently against him opened a criminal case. A year ago, a court in Kiev in absentia found him guilty of treason and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment.
