Russian oligarch, the main owner and the head of “Severstal” Alexey Mordashov plans to create their own marketplace similar to Amazon with American Jeff Bezos, writes Bloomberg. It is expected to trade mainly food and tickets.
According to the Mordashov, his holding company “Severgroup” has already invested in several companies from different sectors, including education, medicine, travel, and retail trade. Now they plan to unite in a common ecosystem.
According to TASS, we are talking about the supermarket network “Lenta” online hypermarket “Utkonos”, travel company TUI (in which the structures Mordashov owns 25 percent of shares), as well as technology companies TalentTech.
The first step on the way of combining assets from different industries were made last year, when “Severgroup” acquired 78.7 percent “Tape” the American investment Fund TPG Group and the European Bank for reconstruction and development, and then announced a gradual shift in strategy in favor of online sales and delivery.
The timing of the creation of the new marketplace has not yet announced. Amazon was founded by American businessman Jeff Bezosa in 1995. Now it is the largest of Internet store and marketplace in the world with an annual turnover of 201,4 billion (by 2018).
