American strategic reconnaissance drone RQ-4 Global Hawk is able to look inside of Russia, according to Verdens Gang, the words of the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
In a publication in the Norwegian newspaper says that such drones new “bare” Russia — if the drones were flying mostly near the Crimea and the Kaliningrad region, in the future such missions can be, and along the Russian-Norwegian border.
Chief Executive officer of the Alliance recalled that the RQ-4 Global Hawk is capable of tracking the ground situation at ranges of 200 kilometers. Stoltenberg added that NATO has purchased five of these drones, the beginning of the service which is scheduled for 2022. The NATO Secretary General said that Russia and China there is no such equipment.
In June 2019, one RQ-4 Global Hawk was downed by Iran in the area of the Strait of Hormuz. Another drone was lost in June 2017 in California due to a failure in the navigation system.
High-altitude strategic reconnaissance UAV Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is capable of speeds up to 800 kilometers per hour and fly at altitudes of up to 19.8 thousand meters and at the distance of 24.9 thousand kilometers. The duration of stay of the device in air is 36 hours. Avionics RQ-4 Global Hawk includes sensors for high-definition, electronic warfare systems, relay signals and electronic intelligence.
