Shavkat of Mertieite: Sergey Guneev / RIA Novosti
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev called the rule of his predecessor Islam Karimov at times of fear. About it writes “the Newspaper.uz”.
Mirziyoev addressed the deputies of the legislative chamber of the Republic. He said that he was a member for almost 15 years, but then “times were different” among MPs “encouraged silence.”
“The quieter you were, the better… We the people of the past, now we assign new and young Ministers, officials on the ground. We are here temporarily. We lived in a time of fear,” said Mirziyoev.
The President called on MPs to actively participate in the reform and not ask Ministers questions prepared beforehand. He also thanked the media for their work, noting that “many journalists don’t like” but he likes me. According to Mirziyoev, in Uzbekistan, gone are the days when the flag-raising said: “we’ll do that”.
In 2018 Mirziyoev called the rats of the former “owners” of Fergana region, plundered the region. As mentioned by Uzbek media, it was about the Karimov family, which controlled key enterprises of the region. He Mirziyoev said that he would not name names, and added that no one could talk about such things.
Karimov was the first Secretary of the Communist party of the Uzbek SSR, and then President of independent Uzbekistan. He was succeeded by Mirziyoev, who from 1990 to 2004, was a Deputy of the Supreme Council and of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic, and then worked with the Prime Minister.
