Maximum interest rate on deposits in rubles at the 10 largest banks in Russia for the first time fell below six percent. It follows from the data of the Central Bank, published on the regulator’s website.
Deposits in Russia was a record unprofitable. The reason for the reduction of Deposit rates was the reduction of the key rate by the Bank of Russia. In 2019, the regulator five times the reduced rate — last time it happened in December. Then the Central Bank set the key rate at 6.25 percent.
Maximum interest rate on deposits fell in Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank, Alfa-Bank, VTB, Gazprombank, the Sovcombank, Raiffeisenbank, credit Bank of Moscow, Bank “FC Opening” and Promsvyazbank, which uses the data Bank. From 1 to 10 January 2020, it was 5.93 percent, and from 10 th to 20 th — 5.89 percent. For 2019, it dropped from 7.53 to 6.01 percent.
In 2020, the Central Bank may continue to reduce the key interest rate amid slowing inflation. In December 2019 and amounted to 3 percent and will continue to decline in the beginning of 2020, according to the Bank of Russia. However, according to the forecast of the regulator, by the end of 2020 inflation will be about 4 percent.
