The President of Russia Vladimir Putin met with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky in Jerusalem on Thursday, January 23, as the latter did not take part in the world Holocaust forum, which takes place January 22-23 at the memorial “Yad Vashem” in Israel. The Ukrainian leader requested a meeting with Putin in Jerusalem, but due to the busy schedule of the President of Russia the Kremlin has called the only possible meeting up.

Zelensky previously refused to participate in commemorative events on the Holocaust, giving their delegation to the survivors of the tragedy. However, he came to Israel to participate in commemorative events dedicated to 75-anniversary of the liberation of the German concentration camp at Auschwitz and, in particular, visited the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, where he joined the prayer for peace in Ukraine.

In the Institute “Yad Vashem” have considered the refusal of the Ukrainian President to participate in the event cynical and confusing. The Israeli national memorial of Holocaust and Heroism called the decision Zelensky manipulation, and drew attention to the fact that survivors of the Holocaust, the Ukrainians, whom the President gave way, experiencing discomfort in connection with its absence on the forum.

From participation in the event in memory of the victims of the Holocaust refused, and the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. Its decision he explained that he was not invited to perform on a par with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other representatives of European States. Polish leader saw this as a risk of falsification of history and called the decision correct.
