The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky refused to participate in the world forum of memory of the Holocaust, giving their delegation to the survivors of the tragedy. The head of state wrote on his page in Facebook.
Zelensky said that, on arriving in Israel, the Ukrainian delegation learned that because of the huge interest in the forum and the limited number of places on it proved difficult to get those who survived the Holocaust.
“I decided to transfer my site and place of the delegation of Ukraine for these brave, unique people. Press reports that so did some of the Ministers of the Israeli government. Think that’s right,” said Zelensky.
He stressed that this “does not negate the commemoration of victims of one of the most terrible tragedies of the twentieth century by the delegation of Ukraine.” The members of the delegation will participate in all planned activities and will hold meetings with the leadership of Israel.
“But the main event needs to get those who deserve it the most. Those who have made the greatest feats — saved a life when it was practically impossible to save,” concluded Zelensky.
Previously, the office Zelensky said that the President of Ukraine may intersect on the sidelines of the forum with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. If the meeting takes place, Zelensky intends to discuss the issue further exchanges of prisoners between Moscow and Kiev. The Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Kiev has requested about the meeting between the two leaders, due to a busy schedule, Putin’s conversation can be held up.
