Permanent average population of Russia in 2019 amounted to 146 762 909 people, according to the Federal state statistics service, available on the Agency’s website.
According to Rosstat, as of 1 January 2020 in Russia is home to 146 745 098 people, whereas as of 1 January 2019 — 146 780 720 people. Thus, the reduction amounted to 35 thousand people, or 0.02 percent.
The statistics indicate that 109 million Russian citizens live in cities, while the rural population is 37 million people. And the figure in rural the Russians had increased slightly.
During the annual address to the Federal Assembly, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the main demographic problem of the country — increase of the birth rate. The head of state pointed out that in 2019, the fertility rate in the country amounted to 1.5. According to him, the Russians once again entered the difficult demographic period due to the small number of generation of the 90s years.
In combat the falling birth rate, the Russian leader announced an increase in the size of the parent capital to 466 thousand rubles and promised to pay him after the birth of their first child. At birth, the second will be paid an additional 150 thousand rubles. For families to have their third child, the government will pay 450 thousand mortgage loan.
In addition, the President demanded to distribute regular payments to children aged three to seven years, and announced new measures to support primary school pupils — all of them will be provided free hot meals.
