The constitutional court of Ukraine refused to test the law on the special status of Donbass

The constitutional court of Ukraine refused to check for compliance with the Constitution, the law on the special status of Donbass. About it reports a press-service of the court.

Performance on the test of the law was filed July 19, 2019 deputies from the party “Samopomich”.

The bench of the constitutional court refused to open proceedings in the case, but because the decision was not unanimous, the matter was referred to the Grand chamber of the court, which also rejected the deputies.

The court said that the decision is final and not appealable.

The law “On special order of local government in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions” was adopted in 2014. It operates on a temporary basis and requires annual renewal by Parliament. In recent times, the validity of the law was extended in December 2019.

The law provides Amnesty for participants of the events in the Donbass, the ability to use the Russian language in local governments, participation of local authorities in the appointment of heads of prosecutors and courts, as well as special state support of Ukraine for the restoration of industry and infrastructure. However, according to the decision of the Verkhovna Rada, the above-mentioned article of the law will come into force only after the Russian troops and equipment leave uncontrolled Kiev territory, and after the in the Donbass special elections in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine.
