U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo accused Russia and Iran of obstructing the establishment of a cease-fire in Syria. Relevant post he published on his Twitter account.
“Ruthless Russia’s actions, the Iranian regime, Hizbollah and the regime of [Syrian President Bashar] Assad directly impede the establishment of a truce in the North of Syria,” said Pompeo. He also noted that the us condemns the barbaric attack and called for an immediate ceasefire.
Earlier, American media reported that the regime of Bashar al-Assad embarked on the most active attack from the beginning of the nine-year civil war in the country. This indicates the beginning of the final battle between the forces of the free Syrian army (FSA) supported by Turkey and the supporters of Assad, supported by Russia and Iran.
The civil war in Syria began in spring 2011. The main participants of the conflict — government forces, acting on the side of the incumbent President Bashar al-Assad, the so-called moderate opposition and Islamist groups. The opposition support the United States and European countries, Russia is helping Assad government.
