Israel is unwittingly helping Iran strengthen its position in the middle East, refusing to impose any sanctions on Russia and continuing friendly relations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who supports Tehran. In this, the Israeli authorities have criticized a former adviser to the U.S. President for national security Herbert McMaster in an interview with Israeli publication Globes.
“Putin can come to “Yad Vashem” (the memorial complex of Holocaust history — approx. “Of the tape.ru”) and to position itself as a friend who sympathizes with Israel, but at the same time continue every day to undermine the security of Israel, supporting Iran,” explained McMaster.
He also expressed surprise at the fact that Israel continues the cooperation in the field of technology, scientific development, cyber security and business with a country that posed the greatest threat to its cyber security.
McMaster added that such close relations between Israel and Russia, probably due to the fact that Israel is afraid that the USA will refuse to continue to engage in the solution of existing problems in the region and have already begun to gradually leave the Middle East. The former adviser assured that such fears are groundless.
“There’s no evidence. This is wrong, and this is not happening,” he said. McMaster said that US allies in the region it is natural to think that Washington should do more to combat the Iranian threat. “But to ask for help and to help our enemies is another matter entirely, I think that’s unreasonable,” said McMaster, commenting on the policy of the Israeli authorities.
January 23, Vladimir Putin visited Israel on day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. He met with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, as well as mother convicted in Russia for smuggling hashish Israeli woman Naamah Issachar. In addition, the Russian leader took part in the opening ceremony of the monument “Candle of memory” dedicated to the heroism of the residents of besieged Leningrad during the great Patriotic war. After that in Poland expressed concern over Putin’s warm reception in Israel, and was troubled by the fact that world leaders met Russian President as an equal.
Herbert McMaster was appointed adviser to the President of the United States Donald trump on national security on 20 February 2017. 9 APR 2018 he left his post. It was reported that trump was unhappy with the “too strict approach of the General and his long, irrelevant briefings”.
