Chief choreographer of the Royal ballet in London Liam Scarlett was suspended from work because of the harassment to the dancers. About it reports The Times.
It is alleged that 33-year-old Scarlett, who is considered one of the most sought-after choreographers in the world, asked students to send their intimate photos. A former student said that the teacher also often touch their students and came into the room when they were changing.
“If you’re a dancer, you are taught to say “Yes” to all. It is a competitive environment in which you can’t miss any opportunity. When someone with great power, asks you to do something you are programmed to accept,” shared a student.
Another dancer said that those students who complained about Scarlett received a kind of reward — they got bigger roles in productions. It is clarified that the choreographer suspended pending investigation.
In the spring of 2019 it became known that the teachers of the ballet school of the Vienna state Opera was accused of child abuse. Teachers dance schools use violent training methods. Children are humiliated, girls brought to anorexia and bulimia. Moreover, one of the wards said that the teacher sexually harassed him.
