In the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has denied rumors that Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has forbidden the higher clergy to appear at the funeral of Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, which took place on January 29. On Thursday, January 30, said the Agency “Interfax” in the Synodal Department for relations between Church and society and the media.
As the source noted, everyone who attended the funeral, knew that the service was made Protopresbyter Volodymyr Diakov — he was blessed by the Patriarch Kirill.
“Vicar bishops of the Moscow and some diocesan bishops have chosen to say goodbye to his father Vsevolod and to serve Lis the day before. None of those bishops with whom we talked, confirmed the existence of any ban,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
Earlier, the former chief editor of the “Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate” Sergei Chapnin said that Patriarch Kirill did not attend the funeral of Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin and got banned there bishops. According to him, some bishops “at your own risk” came the day before to serve at the tomb of a short lithium, however, at the official ceremony, none of them never showed up. In addition, the Patriarch refused to help with the funeral, says Caplan.
It is known that Cyril personally performed the funeral service of Archpriest Matthew Stadnyuk, who died in a single day with Chaplin.
Vsevolod Chaplin died on January 26. According to eyewitnesses, before his death, the priest happened asthma attack — he sat down on a bench at the Church of St. Theodore the Studite Nikitsky gate, where he served as Dean, I couldn’t breathe, turned blue and fell. Arrived on the scene, the paramedics pronounced him dead. According to preliminary autopsy results, the Archpriest died from acute coronary heart disease.
Chaplin was familiar with the current Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church since his youth and was even ordained them to the priesthood. After that, he worked together with the Patriarch — held the post of first Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society of the Moscow Patriarchate and included in the Patriarchal Council for culture. In 2015, Chaplin left this position and became rector of the Church of St. Theodore the Studite Nikitsky gate. After the resignation Chaplin has repeatedly criticized the Russian Orthodox Church, while the Church is called to consider the words of Archpriest expression of the official position of the ROC.
