The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe since the beginning of the year rose by two percent. Over five years the cost could reach seven billion dollars. This assessment gave owned by Grigory Berezkin RBC with reference to the draft agreement between “Naftogaz” and “Gazprom”.
Under the agreement, the transit of thousands of cubic meters of gas will cost 31,72 dollar. A source close to the negotiations between the companies indicated that despite the tariff increase, the volume of gas flow through Ukraine has decreased. In 2019 through the territory of Ukraine was about 90 billion cubic meters, nearly 1.5 times more than the current plan. If “Gazprom” will decide to increase deliveries to Europe, the rate will increase, the maximum growth rate at 45 percent.
At the end of last year, estimating income from the transit of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that he will be at least seven billion dollars in five years. According to the contract, “Gazprom” guarantees to pump at least 65 billion cubic meters in the first year and by 40 billion over the next four years.
Direct deliveries of Russian gas to Ukraine ceased in 2015. In the course of negotiations on a new contract for gas transit to the EU, Moscow has linked the agreement with the possibility of renewal of deliveries. However, on 30 December 2019, the parties signed the contract without mentioning the sale of gas to Ukraine, the issue, Moscow and Kiev agreed to discuss later.
