The fugitive ex-President of Bolivia, Evo Morales will be denied if he decides to return to the government as a Deputy. This was stated by the head of the interior Ministry, Arturo Murillo, reports Voz de América.
He stressed that the interim government will submit a complaint to the Supreme electoral court if Morales will try to register as a candidate in the parliamentary elections. “Mr. Morales may not be admitted [before the election], he is under investigation,” — said Murillo. He added that Morales “is a disgrace to the political sector and the whole country.”
So the interior Minister reacted to news that Morales asked his lawyer Wilfred Chavez to submit to it the documents required for registration as a candidate in the senators or the deputies of the Parliament of Bolivia, the newspaper writes. The deadline for the official registration of candidates — 3 Feb.
Evo Morales announced his resignation on November 10, amid the ongoing protests, and then took refuge in Mexico, along with other members of the government. He called the incident a coup d’etat and said he was ready to return to the country.
Riots in Bolivia started after the announcement of the results of the presidential elections, which took place on 20 October. Them victory in the first round was won by Morales. His rival, former President Carlos Mesa did not recognize the voting results. The authorities have accused of rigging the results.
Russia recognized Agnes as interim President of Bolivia. In Moscow called the events that led to the resignation of Morales, is equivalent to the coup, however, considered the situation as an internal affair of the country.
