The former Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Onishchenko has applied for political asylum in Germany. About it reports Deutsche Welle with reference to his lawyer Ingo Menaggio.
Now Onishchenko awaits a court decision on extradition to his homeland. According to Menaggio, Ukraine fugitive ex-member of Parliament expects the danger to life and health.
The lawyer also spoke about the “catastrophic” conditions in jail in Ukraine. Menegio said that former Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko still has a great influence in the country and is a danger to Onishchenko.
Menaggio also stressed that the former MP is ready to go to Russia if Germany refuses to grant asylum, and the court will reject the request of Ukraine for extradition as politically motivated. The lawyer noted that Onishchenko is a Russian passport.
Ukraine Aleksandr Onishchenko is suspected of organizing schemes of theft of public funds. The Prosecutor’s office believe that from 2013 to 2016 the employees of several enterprises, including “Ukrgazvydobuvannia”, with the participation Onishchenko sold locally produced gas at a lower price, which caused state losses of three billion hryvnia (about us $ 113 million at current exchange rates). In July 2016 the Verkhovna Rada gave its consent to detain and arrest Onishchenko, but by that time he had already left Ukraine.
