Russia refused to vote for the resolution on Libya approved by the UN security Council. This was stated by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, reports RIA Novosti.
According to him, it is unclear whether all parties to the conflict in Libya to abide by conference decisions. Nebenzia said that Russia has repeatedly stressed the importance of this step in the preparation of the Berlin forum and after its completion.
The text of the resolution reads that the security Council approves the results of the Berlin conference on Libya and confirms the need for a ceasefire at the earliest opportunity without any preconditions. Also the UN security Council recalled the obligation to refrain from intervention in the armed conflict or in the internal Affairs of Libya. The author of the resolution is the United Kingdom, it was supported by 14 countries.
Earlier in January, the UN said on violating agreements on Libya countries. What specific countries have violated the embargo on arms supplies to the country was not specified.
International conference on the settlement of the situation in Libya was held in Berlin on January 19. In negotiations took part the leaders of Russia, Germany, France, UK, Turkey, Egypt, and UN Secretary-General, head of the European Commission and representatives of other international organizations. Following the conference, the parties agreed on a final document, involving the solution of some problems in Libya. In addition, a decision was taken to impose an embargo on arms supplies to the conflicting parties and the enhanced monitoring of the implementation of that decision.
