Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei has ruled out US influence in the country. His words bring “news”.
Makei noted that Belarus cannot be drawn into the sphere of any influence, because the state was and is in Europe where near “there are great neighbors and have neighbors less”.
The Minister added that Belarus plans to strengthen relations with all important trade and economic partners. Mackay also asked about whether a rapprochement with the United States lining up to limit relations with Russia. To this question the Minister answered that the country “not friends and not be friends with someone at the expense of someone else, to the detriment of someone or against someone.” The Minister added that Belarus seeks to build good relations with all partners, with neighbours they objectively will always be closer.
Previously, Mackay stated that the Republic will focus on cooperation with Russia. “Belarus is moving in the direction that will correspond to its national interests. Our principled position is that we cannot and should not be friends with someone to the detriment of someone or against someone,” he said.
Starting in 2018, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly broached the issue of the independence and sovereignty of the Republic. So, in December, Lukashenko assured that the country will never become part of Russia, and the concept of sovereignty is for the country of the Holy Ghost.
