The Prosecutor’s office of the Western administrative district (ZAO), Moscow, in writing, apologized to the journalist of “Medusa” Ivan Golunov for unreasonable criminal prosecution. Employee the Internet-editions reported in his Telegram-the channel that received the corresponding letter.
“On behalf of the state bring you an official apology in connection with unreasonable criminal prosecution,” the letter reads on behalf of the Prosecutor of the Metropolitan area of Gregory Radionov.
The document stated that apologies were offered “in accordance with the requirement of article 136 of the Criminal procedure code of Russia”, and also says that Golunov has the right to apply to court for compensation for moral damage.
A journalist, commenting on the letter, noticed that the apology he needs to bring the Prosecutor General’s office, as it is the Federal Agency supervises his business.
First an apology to a special correspondent of “Medusa” for the illegal criminal prosecution appeared 5 Feb. Then Golunov reported that he know nothing about it.
The journalist was recognized as a victim case of police abuse. On January 22, he demanded an apology from the state for wrongful prosecution. A complaint Golunov filed to the new Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov. According to his lawyer Sergei Badamshina, the General Prosecutor’s office refused to apologise to the journalist.
Golunova was detained June 6, 2019 in Moscow, accused of attempted sale of drugs. Gross violations during his detention caused a public outcry. Activists gathered at the building of the Main Directorate of the interior Ministry in Moscow to demand the release of the reporter, many members of the media defended colleagues. June 11, 2019, the Minister of internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev has informed on closing of criminal case against the journalist and his release.
