Mexico decided not to buy from Russia a batch of military helicopters. It is reported by the newspaper El Universal, citing a source in the Mexican foreign Ministry.

The reasons for this decision were not disclosed. It is noted that the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said last week on the conduct of Mexico’s negotiations on this issue.

It is emphasized that Russia and Mexico have long-standing ties in the military sphere. However, the US opposed the deal and threatened Latin American country sanctions in case of purchase of Russian helicopters.

7 Feb Sergei Lavrov said that the Mexican side is considering the possibility of concluding new contracts with Rosoboronexport for the purchase of helicopters. He said that the country already has about 50 Russian helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-17.
