Russia asked Canada documents on the mass murder of children in 1942

Russia’s investigative Committee has asked Canada the materials of criminal cases on the mass murder of inmates of the orphanage in Yeisk Krasnodar region in 1942. On Friday, February 14, “the” has informed the official representative of Department Svetlana Petrenko.

In October 2019 was initiated a criminal case under article 357 of the criminal code (“Genocide”) in connection with the murder of the inmates of Yeysk children’s home during the great Patriotic war.

According to Petrenko, the investigation sent a request to the canadian side for the provision of materials of criminal cases and other judicial proceedings against Helmut Oberlander, check on participation in this crime.

Oberlander served as an interpreter in the Sonderkommando SS-10 “and” under the supervision of Dr. Kurt Christmann. Their unit is known use in the occupied territories mobile gas chambers. One of the operations was carried out on the territory of Krasnodar region in the period of 1942-1943, when the region was sent to the Sonderkommando. The mass murder of children in this territory was completely on 9 and 10 October 1942.

In the 1940-ies and 1960-ies the number of members of the Sonderkommando SS-10 “a” was arrested and convicted. However, Oberlander was able to avoid criminal liability, he disappeared from investigation authorities immediately after the surrender of Germany.

In December 2019, the Supreme court of Canada has stripped Oberlander previously granted citizenship because he had concealed from authorities the fact of participation in the activities of the Sonderkommando SS-10 “a”.

“Currently, the Investigative Committee of Russia, based on international law and national legislation, establishes all circumstances of the participation of Oberlander in the composition of the Sonderkommando, since in accordance with the Charter of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg of the murder and extermination of civilian population before or during war constitute crimes against humanity — a crime without a limitation period”, — said Petrenko.

In October 2019, the FSB of Russia has declassified documents about the death of 214 children in the years of the great Patriotic war, including the results of a survey of the graves and exhumations. Killed by the Nazis were children evacuated in Yeysk.
