Ukraine, Romania to strengthen cooperation in the naval sphere to jointly confront Russia in the Black sea. This was stated by the Minister of defense of Ukraine Andriy Zagorodnyuk in his Telegram channel.
Zagorodnyuk met with his Romanian counterpart Mykola Ciuc in the framework of the Munich conference. In particular, the parties discussed the possibility of exchange of information on air and naval situation in the Black sea. “This will help us to more effectively respond to common threats in the region,” wrote Zagorodnyuk, stressing that both countries are “concerned by the threatening actions of Russia in the Black sea and the militarization” of the Crimea.
In addition, Ukraine, Romania to hold joint military exercises, and expand the activities of the international engineer battalion “Tysa”. The Minister also expressed hope that the Romanian side will support Ukraine’s aspirations to join the partnership programme enhanced NATO’s capabilities.
In November 2019 Ukraine agreed to strengthen cooperation of the naval forces in the Black sea with Turkey. The need for joint efforts to stabilize the situation in the region, the Ukrainian side also explained “threat from Russia”.
