The President of France Emmanuel macron acknowledged the failure of anti-Russian sanctions, noting that they did not bring neither Europe nor Russia nothing positive. The corresponding statement of the French leader made at the Munich security conference, RIA Novosti reported.

“We have a frozen conflict, a system of distrust, conflict, cybersecurity, sanctions that absolutely nothing has changed in Russia”, — he said. At the same time, macron said that not offers to remove them.

According to the French leader, imposed by the EU against Moscow sanctions “are the Europeans also expensive, as well as Russia, for a result that is not too positive.”

Speaking at the Munich conference, the Makron also described two scenarios of interaction of European countries with Moscow. First and foremost, according to him, Europe is able to act in relations with Russia “even more harshly” and build up pressure against it. On the other hand, European leaders have the opportunity to expand a strategic dialogue with Moscow, respecting their values and saving influence.

USA, EU countries and Ukraine first imposed economic sanctions against Moscow in 2014 after the Crimea according to the results of the referendum became part of Russia. The annexation of the Peninsula was deemed illegal, but Moscow denies these charges. Then in 2015, the sanctions were imposed because of the conflict in the Donbass. In response, Moscow imposed a ban on food imports from countries that supported sanctions.
