Russia continues to pursue a strategy of escalation in the Donbas, which is a violation of the obligations assumed as a party to the Minsk agreements. This was stated by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergey Kislitsa, writes “RBC-Ukraine”.
He said that the worsening situation in the Donbass and attempt armed groups of the self-proclaimed Luhansk national Republic (LNR) to break through the line of contact are “particularly cynical” in the “fifth anniversary of the tragedy in Debaltsevo,” reports the publication LB.ua.
“What is our position today? Apparently, the answer was given at 5 am local time, when our positions were attacked,” said Sorrel, adding that the Armed forces of Ukraine gave the appropriate response, by the inalienable right to self-defence.
In turn, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia accused Ukraine of sabotaging the Minsk agreements. According to the diplomat, of the 13 points of agreements at the moment are only two: on the work of the contact group in Minsk and of the Special monitoring mission of the OSCE.
On the background of aggravation of the situation in the Donbass, the UN Security Council held a meeting on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements the leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia. Signatures under the document were put by the representatives of OSCE and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics. According to the agreement, the warring parties in the Donbass obliged to cease hostilities. Kiev has pledged to carry out political reforms and to grant the region special status.
