“This move is a response to the realities of our time, when increasing numbers of people find it more convenient to use Bank cards. Many Orthodox monasteries and churches in Russia and abroad provide an opportunity to make your donations by Bank cards”, — said the press service of the diocese of the Russian region.
In addition, according to the interlocutor of Agency, on the installation of Bank terminals allegedly asked the believers themselves. The diocese noted that, under the Statute of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), the money that you receive receipts as donations and payment for items of religious significance, cannot be identified with entrepreneurial activity, because they are not aimed at receiving profit.
In January the head of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate’s charity Bishop of Orekhovo-Zuevsky Panteleimon (Shatov) said to accept acquired unfair, “maybe even criminal way” money as donations to the temple wrong. In the Russian Orthodox Church recommended priests to refuse such offerings, and philanthropists — to spend “villainous” money to help orphans.
