Turkey wanted to continue working on the de-escalation of the situation in the Syrian Idlib and return of Syrians to their former positions, to the borders provided in accordance with the Memorandum. It is reported by the Anadolu news Agency on his Twitter.
These statements were made on the Turkish-Russian talks on Idlib, which took place today in Ankara. The Turkish side also stressed the necessity to establish a lasting ceasefire.
The situation in the region worsened in the night of 28 February, when the Turkish army struck back on the positions of the Syrians in Idlib. Syrian military lost complexes “Beech” and “Armor”, 23 tanks, the same field and self-propelled guns, and five helicopters.
The defense Ministry stated that the Turkish troops came under fire, because they were among advancing on positions of the Syrian army fighters and gave their coordinates. Turkey said in response that the strikes on positions applied, in spite of coordination with Russia.
Previous exacerbation in Idlib took place on 20 February. Then the militants with the support of the Turkish artillery launched an offensive in the area of the village Nairab and fell under the blows of the Russian space forces.
The Syrian army in the offensive launched in January-February took almost half Iglinskiy areas of de-escalation and had left behind the Turkish observation posts. This angered Ankara, and Erdogan said that if by the end of February, Syrian troops did not withdraw behind the line of posts, the Turkish army will start a military operation.
