In the United States registered a record growth of unemployment. The number of submitted initial applications for benefits grew by three million, which is almost twice the level analysts expected, according to RIA Novosti.

The previous high — plus 695 thousand for the week was registered in October 1982. Thus, the current result broke the previous record by 4.3 times.

The number of unemployed in the US rose to 3,283 million. As noted in the Ministry of labor, this result is associated with the spread of the coronavirus.

At the same time, for the week ended March 14, the number receiving unemployment benefits in the U.S. increased by 101 thousand, reaching 1,803 million. This is the highest figure over the past two years, from April 2018.

Data on unemployment, contrary to expectations, did not scare the market. After the start of trading major stock market indices U.S. S&P 500, Dow Jones and NASDAQ are growing in the range of 4-5 percent.

Previously, experts of the nonprofit Washington-based “economic policy Institute” (Economic Policy Institute) suggested that the summer jobs in the US could lose 14 million people.
