The Chairman of the media Commission of the Public chamber, journalist Alexander Malkevich has launched a new website to fight fakes on the coronavirus. As reported RIA Novosti, portal called CoronaFake will deal with the dissemination of false information in Russia.
Malkevich said that the team of journalists and bloggers will be carefully looking for fakes about the coronavirus and to refute them. “So much conflicting information that sometimes don’t know who to trust”, — he added.
In addition, the portal will publish fresh reliable information on the number infected and the survivors, and documented evidence of prevention measures.
On 31 March, the state Duma adopted a law that provides for punishment for distributing fake about the coronavirus. For the publication of such information imposes fines of up to 700 thousand rubles, the minimum amount of penalty — 300 thousand rubles. If the result of the proliferation of fakes has suffered harm, the penalty will be from 700 thousand to 1.5 million rubles, and the term of imprisonment up to three years. If the result about information, one person was killed, the penalty increases to two million rubles, and the term of imprisonment to five years.
