Federal forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) is working on amendments to the Forest code, which would oblige the tenants to extinguish forest fires on its territory. About it in interview to the newspaper “Izvestia” said the head of the Federal forestry Agency Sergey Anoprienko.
“This bill is now undergoing interagency coordination. We are in dialogue with the Russian Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs, it is quite constructive. I hope will find a common language,” said Anoprienko.
According to officials, significant forest Fund of Russia, about 230 million hectares, is currently leased under various activities — hunting, gathering, logging. Currently contracts only prescribed the obligations of the lessees to conduct fire prevention measures, but not to extinguish forest areas.
Forest conservation is one of the key directions of the national project “Ecology”, which is implemented in Russia until 2024. Within the subsection provides for the recovery of areas deforested and killed by forest fires, reducing damage from fires three times.
