France and Germany have agreed to begin joint development of a new main battle tank. On Thursday, April 30, said in his Twitter account, the Minister of the Armed forces of France, Florence Parlee.
The agreement was signed remotely, with the participation of the Minister of defence of Germany Annegret Kramp-of Karrenbauer. According to parley, the result of cooperation between the army of both countries in 2035 will be able to obtain a modern European tank, which has broad communication capabilities. Therefore, according to the Minister, Europe will be able to build its own defense on the basis of “specific projects and mutual trust”.
According to TASS, citing the French newspaper La Tribune, the agreement on the establishment of a “tank of the future” was held four years ago, but all this time couldn’t agree on how will be distributed the orders among them industrial enterprises. Furthermore, Germany opposed the supply of promising military machine in the middle East.
It is expected that a new tank joint production will replace the armament in France heavy tank AMX-56 Leclerc and the German Leopard 2.
