The efficacy of blood plasma recovered from coronavirus of patients for treatment of the infection is ambiguous. This way of treatment is assessed by the head of the interdepartmental working group on combating the spread of coronavirus infection in Saint-Petersburg, academician Evgeny Shlyakhto, reports “Interfax”.

“We today, with the experience of other countries, we know that not every plasma is effective,” — said the scientist. He stressed that the antibodies only appear in 30-40 percent recovered, and the mechanisms of action of plasma is not entirely clear.

Shlyakhto added that plans to conduct scientific research, which conducted sampling of plasma recovered with subsequent testing for the presence of neutralizing coronavirus antibodies. “Samples that show compliance with the requirements can then be used for the treatment [of patients in the studies],” said the academician.

Implement a new approach to the treatment of people infected with coronavirus planned “somewhere in the middle of may,” said Shlyakhto.

As of April 30, the total number of cases of infection with coronavirus in Russia has exceeded 106 thousand. During the day, has infected more than 7 thousand people. At any time since the beginning of the epidemic died 1073 patient with a coronavirus, 11 619 — recovered.
