Russian President Vladimir Putin called for additional budget places in Russian universities, to at least 60 percent of the graduates of 2020 could qualify for free training. He said this during the meeting on the situation in the education system, the live broadcast which leads the TV channel “Russia 24” on YouTube.
“Of course, it is important to ensure the availability of free higher education, to support young people. In my address [to the Federal Assembly], I proposed every year since 20201 to increase the number of budget places in universities on priority directions of development of economy, social sphere, and give these places mainly to universities in the regions. I believe that we need to take this step this year”, — said the head of state.
Putin added that the new academic year and students, and students should begin “without much delay”.
Also during the meeting, Vladimir Putin announced the start date of the unified state exam (use). It was postponed first to June 8, and then for an indefinite period in connection with the spread of the coronavirus. The head of state announced that the first exam will be held on June 29. In 2020, the exam will take only those graduates who plan to enter higher education, others may obtain certificates according to current estimates.
