The building of the foreign Ministry of Ukraineto: Alexander Yalovoy / Kommersant
Russia is using the deteriorating humanitarian situation as a smokescreen for further attacks on the rights and freedoms of Crimean residents. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine published on the website of the Department.
The Ukrainian foreign Ministry has seen the “continuing deterioration of human rights” on the Peninsula and strongly condemned the Russian authorities. As an example there are cited the “forced conscription in the occupation army” and “the deprivation of citizens of Ukraine the right of ownership of land in the Crimea.”
“Moreover, more than three years, the Russian Federation as the occupying state puts itself above International court of justice, ignoring his order, which requires you to resume the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people (banned in Russia organization — approx. “Of the tape.ru”) and is intended to protect the identity of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar communities in conditions of temporary occupation,” the statement said.
The Ukrainian foreign Ministry stated that Russia has resorted to “fabrications of controlled “pocket” organizations for hard distortion of reality.” The diplomats have listed the names of Crimean Tatars who participated and continues to participate in trials.
Crimea became part of Russia in 2014, after a referendum in which the majority of respondents supported this decision. In the same year, the United States, European Union and some other countries have introduced sanctions against Russia due to the annexation of the Peninsula. Kiev considers the territory annexed and accuses Moscow of violating the rights of the Crimean Tatars. Russian authorities deny these accusations.
