The Ministry of tourism and culture of Turkey released statistics showing the loss of the country because of the closed air links with several States, including Russia, against the background of the pandemic coronavirus. Data are published by the Association of tour operators of Russia (ATOR).
So, in April in Turkey was visited by only 922 Russian traveller, and the tourist flow from the country fell by almost 99,76 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Clarifies that such low levels not seen even during the suspension of air links between Russia and Turkey in the first half of 2016.
In addition, the travelers stopped coming and other important for Turkey’s tourism industry countries. For example, the passenger traffic from Germany decreased by 99.88 percent, and the U.K. — 99,87 percent.
Thus, due to the closure of the borders in April, Turkey was visited by only 24.2 thousand tourists, which is 99.3% lower than the same month in 2019.
Earlier in may, Turkish foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the country is actively working to restore air links with Russia and Germany. According to the Minister, the decision on the resumption of flights will be made taking into account the epidemiological situation in the States, the number of infected and deaths from the coronavirus.
Turkey announced about passed the peak of the epidemic of the coronavirus on April 29. According to the latest data, the country has identified more than 156 thousand infected, of which 4,340 people died, 118 thousand — cured.
