Named the punishment for the accused by Russia of spying Americans

The public Prosecutor has requested 18 years in prison of strict regime accused in espionage American Paul Whelan. On Monday, may 25, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the press service of the Moscow city court.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and speaking with the last word, asked the court to acquit him. The verdict will be announced on June 15.

Paul Whelan was detained in Moscow on 28 December 2018. On removal from the USB flash drive was discovered information that constitutes a state secret. Lawyer Whelan claimed that the drive had personal information about his stay in Russia during previous visits, but the sources of the newspaper “Kommersant” said that she, presumably, found a list of the personnel of one of divisions of FSB. Whelan was charged with spying for the United States.
