Relatives of former Chechen militants turned to the “Novaya Gazeta” and its editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov. They protested the actions of the newspaper, accusing journalists in the dissemination of false information from article by Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya. A letter published by the Agency “Grozny-inform”.
The text says that the authors reside in Chechnya are family and loved ones 1600, “when the ex-militants or become members of terrorist organizations.” They said that the article of the journalist “New” about the bad attitude of the authorities towards the families of dead militants or members of terrorist organizations is a lie and noted that it aroused a storm of indignation in the Republic.
Journalists “the New” treatment called “enemies of the people” and urged not to meddle in the lives of the Chechens “for grants”. They demanded removal of the article, the publication of retraction and apology, and stated that it was necessary “to prevent the publication of such blasphemous material.”
The letter says that the Chechen authorities are trying to help them and no bad attitudes do not. According to them, many of yesterday’s militants now work in law enforcement, and the “repentant ex-terrorists” after a prison term returning to normal life.
“Each of us with all my soul hates your publication, and hates You as editor-in-chief, nor your journalists who do not care about the lives and feelings of the people, just to pass the article in print,” says Muratov addressed to the letter.
