In Russia the death rate of the working age population in the first three months of 2020 has already exceeded the similar indicator for the whole period, 2019. This was stated by the chief psychiatrist of the Ministry of health Yevgeny Bryun, reports “Interfax”.

According to him, in 2019, died 36,5 thousand people of working age, whereas in the first three months recorded more than 37 thousand deaths in this category. Brune also noted that in Moscow recorded a significant increase in mortality in April. In 2020 this month died of 11.8 thousand people, and in 2019 — 10 thousand.

“I think drug problems [cause of death] out on one of the first places, not only viral load,” said Bruhn, noting that a significant role in the increased mortality of the working population plays, including alcohol. According to the psychiatrist, “acute sudden death, cardiac arrest, as a rule, pathologists tell us that man is abused [alcohol]”.

May 13, Minister of health Michael Murashko said that in the regime of self-isolation during a pandemic coronavirus Russians were more likely to die from alcohol. In his opinion, the restriction of the sale of alcoholic beverages would pave “the way to reduce mortality and morbidity” and gradually move away from a culture of alcohol dependence.
