Poland spoke about the fight against gas dependence on Russia



The President of the Polish oil and gas concern PGNiG Jerzy Kwiecinski in the air of Polish radio said about the gradual reduction of gas dependence on Russia, reports RIA Novosti.

According to him, the struggle for the diversification of supply led to the fact that if in 2017 the country has bought at “Gazprom” 77 percent of the consumed gas, in 2020 only 60 percent.

Kicinski explained that Russian gas has replaced the American, and in the future the country will meet its needs through production on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The agreement on gas supplies Russia and Poland signed in 1996. It expires in 2022, and the Polish side has already declared that is not going to renew it. Chairman of the management Board of PGNiG Piotr, Wozniak previously explained that the country annually loses on the agreement for $ 250 million because of the refusal of Gazprom to reduce prices to market values.

The correctness of the position of Poland confirmed the Stockholm arbitration court, after which the Russian company has cut prices since March this year. Now the parties are negotiating the payment of a fine in the amount of $ 1.5 billion.

Also in may the expired contract on the transit of Russian gas to Germany. From this moment, Gazprom has to reserve capacity at the auction. Prior to July 1, auctions are held daily, and the third quarter contracted 80 percent of supply. The winners of the auctions not known, but experts agree that the use of the tube can only “Gazprom”.
