Animals that are at risk for infection with coronavirus from a man is, first and foremost, the inhabitants of the aquariums. About it RIA Novosti said the biologist, member of the conferences of the UN Conventions in the field of protection of animals and biodiversity Maria Vorontsov.
According to her, screening the types of cells that scientists had found that about 40 species of animals susceptible to infection. Their cells contain receptors sensitive to the transfer and consolidation of virus. In particular, the threat of infection from person affects all toothed whales: dolphins, belugas, killer whales, narwhals, and seals.
Moreover, this likelihood increases in the conditions of the aquarium. However, there’s also the reverse transmission from animal to human, said the biologist. “For example, killer whale — animals are very delicate and easily infected from man. In aquariums, the animals live only in the presence of a veterinarian, so coronavirus will be an additional burden,” she said.
In addition, the risk was and the great apes. Vorontsov said that, therefore, under protection were gorillas in Africa.
