Russia has proposed tougher penalties for the encouragement of drug addiction in Internet



In the state Duma has developed the bill according to which those who through the Internet is encouragement of drug use, propose to punish by deprivation of liberty for a term up to ten years. On Thursday, may 28, reports TASS with reference to the copy of the document available to the Agency.

The bill was developed by members of the state Duma Commission on investigation of facts of interference of foreign States into Russia’s internal Affairs. They propose to make in part 2 of article 230 of the criminal code (“incitement to drug use”) of the new fifth paragraph, introducing stricter liability for the use of Internet network for propaganda of drug addiction. For this crime will be called a deprivation of liberty for a term of five to ten years with restriction of liberty for a term up to two years or without it.

To toughen the punishment offered in the case that the same actions inadvertently led to the death of two and more persons is going to face imprisonment for the term from 12 till 15 years (now 10 to 15).

Previously it was reported that Russia has developed the bill providing increase of penalties for the encouragement of drug abuse on the Internet. Then the document was prepared by the state Duma Committee on security. Lower threshold of liability for such breach will be made at 12 years of imprisonment. The head of the Committee Vasily Piskarev said that the Internet significantly increases the degree of social danger of the act. In his opinion, the amendments will help to combat the sale of drugs online.
