Vaccination against COVID-19 is likely to be similar to the existing flu shot. This action of the drug described by the head of the Department in the Hadassah hospital of Ar and Tsofim Professor Jacob Berman, reports RIA Novosti.
According to him, a kind of vaccination alleviates the symptoms of the disease, not prevent it. Even after a vaccine is found, and the scientists can prove its safety and efficiency, it can’t protect 100 percent against disease, and vaccination against seasonal flu, says the doctor.
The doctor explained that vaccines that completely prevent infection, virtually no. “It is more likely that it will be similar to the existing flu shot because the virus itself mutates. We can already see that it changes,” he said.
Berman recalled that the search for a vaccine against COVID-19 are now in different countries. Some laboratories have already conducted the first phase of testing on humans. However, according to the scientist, the data still do not allow to judge how effective vaccination against coronavirus. He added that while experts don’t even know how effective natural immunity in people who recover COVID-19.
Earlier, the epidemiologist Alexander Gorelov said that a vaccine for the coronavirus most likely will not be universal. For each population there will be a separate product. Vaccination, the expert believes, should be safe not only for the adult working population, but also for children, people with chronic diseases and pregnant women.
