The Russians run the risk of Contracting coronavirus on the beaches and when swimming in the sea. This was stated by associate Professor of the Department of physical chemistry of the National research technological University “MISIS” George Frolov in conversation with the Agency “Moscow”.
According to the expert on biological defense, the main danger is waiting for people in shallow water, since viral particles can accumulate on the surface in the foam in the surf. “In this foam doesn’t just live coronavirus, but cholera and rotavirus coli, intestinal bacteria,” warned the expert, advised swimmers to be cautious when entering the water and exiting.
Not to be infected, according to Frolov, the following simple preventive measures: do not swallow sea water and treating the feet in soapy water, and the wounds on his body with hydrogen peroxide.
In addition, to protect the beach lovers it is necessary to disinfect the coastal areas — the surf and the edge of the sand. The procedure should be carried out in the morning when the sea is calm, with the help of aerosol spraying of antiseptic solutions.
In the open sea, the expert said, the likelihood of catching the virus is decreased, because large space and ultraviolet radiation create unfavourable conditions for its distribution.
Previously, the probability of infection when bathing was evaluated by scientists of the Institute of biology of southern seas named after Alexander Kovalevsky Russian Academy of Sciences in Sevastopol. According to the study, SARS-CoV-2 is poorly preserved in sea water, and its activity is reduced by heating the water to temperatures recorded at the peak of the holiday season.
