The US has invited Russia to participate in the creation of the international lunar Gateway station. A Memorandum Roskosmos has received from NASA, according to RIA Novosti.
“According to the American colleagues, the document has been coordinated with the US state Department. The Corporation is preparing a position on the project where they will formulate the terms and format of the Russian participation in the Gateway program”, — said Roscosmos.
The Corporation noted that it will be ready to begin detailed consultation with NASA after “will be generated consolidated position on participation in the program.”
In December 2019, the General Director of rostec Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia took the decision to return to negotiations about participation in the Gateway project.
In September 2018, NASA announced that the leading role in the future Gateway belongs to the United States.
Then Rogozin said that Russia will not participate in the Gateway project on the sidelines. He added that a lunar station could be created in conjunction with the BRICS countries.
In the same month, cosmonaut Oleg Kotov told TASS that at the present time the Russian crew on the ISS consists of two, not three, as earlier, due to the lack of funds for the launch of the cargo spacecraft “Progress”.
