The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine has repaid Eurobonds worth one billion dollars that was released in 2015 under the guarantee of the United States. This is stated in the message on the Agency’s website.
Interest rate on the issuance was $ 1,847 per cent per annum. Ukraine three times borrowed money under the American guarantee in the years 2014-2016. The first issue repaid a year ago, the last Republic will pay in September 2021.
The Ministry noted that Ukraine fulfills its commitments, despite the global crisis, which has particular challenges for developing countries, and thanked the U.S. for its support.
In September last year, who was at that time Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Goncharuk said that in 2020, the repayment of current debts leave a third of the budget of the country.
Currently, the Supreme court of London has the final decision on the dispute Eurobonds for three billion dollars, which Ukraine took in 2013, but has not paid Russia.
Moscow won the case, but Kiev has appealed. It had four arguments, and the court of Appeal listened to one of them, ruling that we need to seriously consider imposing a loan.
Russia and Ukraine at the same time appealed the decision. Hearings in the case lasted four days and was completed in mid-December, 2019. However, the timing of the verdict is unknown. It is possible that the process will stretch into next year.
