The Deputy of the state Duma Vyacheslav Lysakov has revealed the circumstances of the death of Colonel-General Igor Sergun, who until his death held the position of chief of the GRU, the chief Directorate of the General staff of the Russian Armed forces. Sargon, according to the official version, died in January 2016 in rest home near Moscow, but the circumstances of his death has still not been disclosed. According to Lysakova, from informal trade Union for ambulance staff he has become aware of all the details of the incident.

According to Lysakova, Sargon could survive if the call promptly flew a special team of doctors. He also stated that he had directed parliamentary inquiries to the Kremlin, the Prosecutor General and the Investigative Committee.
Igor Sergun was 58 years old. He was the head of GRU from December 2011 until his death. A former adviser to the U.S. President for national security Michael Flynn claimed that the captain actually died in Lebanon, however, the defense Ministry denied this information.
The successor of Sarguna at the head of the GRU, Colonel-General Igor Korobov died in November 2018 after a long illness. The current head of the office is Admiral Igor Kostyukov.
