In Minsk by people in mufti detained a well-known Belarusian opposition, Nikolai Statkevich. This was reported by his wife Maryna Adamovich, the human rights center “Spring”.

The couple went on picket in support of alternative parties presidential election campaign. “On Mayakovsky street, breaking all the rules of the road, a van blocked our way and forced to stop. Men in civilian clothes pulled out of the car ignition key, pulled out of Nikolai and took away in the unknown direction”, — said Adamovich.

She came to the police to write a statement about the kidnapping.

On 31 may in different cities of Belarus is planned pickets for collection of signatures in support of alternative candidates. However, in the morning there were messages on detention of the activists.

Statkevich was going to nominate his candidacy, however, the CEC rejected his application because of a criminal record, reminds TASS. Mikalai Statkevich, the leader of the unregistered party “Narodnaya Hramada”. In 2011, the court sentenced him to six years in a medium security penal colony, having recognized guilty in organizing mass disturbances after the presidential elections of 2010. Four years later the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has pardoned Statkevich and several opposition leaders. However, a conviction is considered unfinished for eight years.
