The former head of the Board of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko planning to propose his candidacy for the post of the President of Belarus has gained the necessary number of signatures. This was reported in Telegram-channel opposition journalist Sergei Putilo NextaLive.

According to the initiative group of the candidate, gave him the signatures 230 001, while for registration as a candidate it is necessary 100 thousand signatures. Representatives of Babariko stressed that the final signature for it gave the man, whose mother died from COVID-2019. After that, the politician met him personally to Express condolences.

Earlier it became known that one more opponent of the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, the former head of the high-tech Park Valery Tsepkalo also managed to collect over 100 thousand signatures.

On 9 June it was also reported that Lukashenko held a meeting with state security agencies and instructed them not to allow violations of the legislation on elections. According to the head of state, his political rivals have the scenario set their “masters of money”. The next step of the opposition is to create a “militant groups” and attempts “to organize a massacre on the square”, he warned.

Election of the President of Belarus on 9 August. Officially, the preparations started on 8 may. Now 15 applicants for a post of the head of state, including Lukashenko himself, gather signatures, to be eligible for registration as a candidate.
